Albert “Al” Owens, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 10, 2018 at The Lodge at Broadmead in Saanich, BC. Born with his twin brother, Andy Owens, in October, 1925 to Cecil and Laura Owens in Saskatoon, SK they were the youngest of five children. Despite leaving school young, Al went on to become a machinist with the railroad, a gunsmith, and an expert locksmith and safesmith. He was a loving and kind man who always put his family first. Al will be remembered for his green thumb and beautiful gardens, his spectacular cooking skills and meals he loved to share, his unique sense of humour and his unyielding spirit – he was a force to be reckoned with; the original Renaissance Man. Al will be truly missed by his son, Gerry; his daughter and her husband, Lori and Geoff; his grandchildren, Samantha and Brad; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded by his loving wife, Wilma; parents, Cecil and Laura; siblings, Sylvia, Eric, Mervin, and Andy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Albert’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Veterans Lodge at Broadmead. Special thanks to the staff at Broadmead Lodge for their years of dedicated and compassionate care.
