James Alexander Swanson

James Alexander Swanson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James (Jim) Alexander Swanson, on May 18, 2026, at the age of 84.
Jim was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on June 16,1941, and spent his childhood on Capitol Hill in Burnaby. He was the cherished son of Richard (“Dick”) and Dora Swanson and grew up alongside his brothers, Richard (Bernice) and David (Janette).
On June 16, 1962, Jim married the love of his life, Linda Matheson. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage until Linda’s passing on May 9, 2023. Their love and devotion to one another were the foundation of a life filled with family, friendship, and countless treasured memories.
Jim and Linda raised three children: James (Laurie), Joseph (Amber), and Jennifer (Gerry). He was a proud grandfather to Derek, Sarah, Cabral, Kacey, Gavin, Brooklyn, and Sam, and his great-grandchild, Anteyo.
In 1969, Jim and Linda settled in Surrey, where Jim worked for Teal Cedar. Later in life, they fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Pender Island. There, they purchased a property and built the retirement home they had always envisioned. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the island and embraced by its close-knit community, they spent many happy years together, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Pender Island became more than a home—it became a place where Jim and Linda truly belonged, and where they enjoyed the remainder of their lives together.
