With deep sadness we say “Until we meet again”, to our dear Mal/Dad/Poppy, a wonderful Husband, Father, Grand Father and Great-Grandfather who died peacefully at “Nearly 98” on May 16, 2026 in Saanichton, BC.

A fun-loving and well-travelled gentle man with a heart of gold, Mal was quick with a quip (and all those puns!) and wore a smile on his lips, had a mind full of music and enjoyed classic tv/movies, mystery books, crossword puzzles, cards, Scrabble…and his iPad.

Mal filled the room with his positive presence, booming laughter and love of people. He deeply loved his family and he will truly be missed by all.

Malin was born in Kitchener, Ontario on June 25, 1928 (he shares his birth year with Mickey Mouse) and he adored the jazz greats like Ella, Peggy, Frank, Lena, Rosemary, Arte, Mel and more.

Mal graduated Broadcasting at Ryerson (in Toronto) where he met his first wife (Marilyn June Hall) in the 1950’s. They later moved to Stratford, Ontario and volunteered during the early days at The Stratford Festival, Mal helping as an actor’s dresser, including Bill Shatner.

Mal spent several decades working in the radio and music industry, in both Canada and in England, working as an announcer, promotions manager (including early days for The Beatles), music producer and in sales.

The travel bug caught Mal’s attention early on, his small town of Preston, Ontario being too dull for the adventurous Mal. He spent his younger days working at the Banff Springs Hotel, where he was thrilled to meet Marilyn Monroe and Alan Ladd. Later on Mal travelled far and wide with family and friends, with many trips around Europe, U.K., U.S., Canada, Bermuda, New Zealand, Australia and more.

Mal and his loving wife of over 52 years (Moira Yvonne) made the move to Vancouver Island over 30 years ago, from S. Ontario. Together they created a comfortable and welcoming home in Central Saanich, with lovely gardens tended by Mal, until he was 90 years young!

Mal will always be in our hearts and he’ll forever be dancing on rainbows, welcomed home by his loving parents, Mary and Bill.

There will be no service, outside of a close family Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations be directed to an humanitarian cause in Malin’s name.

“Unforgettable…that’s what you are…”
