Thomas Chard

Thomas Chard

Thomas “Tom” Chard, 76, of Sidney, British Columbia, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on February 5th, surrounded by family.

Tom was a devoted husband to Sharon for 42 wonderful years and a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his two sons and their wives, three beloved grandchildren, and his six siblings, all of whom will carry forward his kindness, creativity, and faith.

For over three decades, Tom dedicated his life to teaching, shaping young minds and leaving a lasting impact on countless students. A devout Christian, his faith guided every part of his life and was evident in the way he loved, served, and encouraged those around him.

Beyond the classroom, Tom was a poet, actor, painter, and artist at heart, a true creative who found beauty in expression and joy in sharing it with others. Just as memorable was his quick wit and great sense of humour; Tom was a natural jokester who could bring laughter into any room and brighten even the hardest days.

Tom will be remembered for his warmth, his infectious laughter, his deep love for family, and his unwavering faith in God. His words, his art, and the many lives he touched will continue to reflect the light he carried.

Ralph Peter & I were so grateful to be able to spend three special days with our Brother Tom, Sharon & family and hug him in person before we said our goodbyes and for the Chard family.

  • Peter Chard -

One of my fondest memories of brother Tom, is when us four amigos (Neil, Jack, Tom and Peter) had gone to Newfoundland. We brought Lyle’s (brother-in-law) ashes to spread by the ocean.
On our trip we looked forward to seeing the whales, the puffins, the moose and maybe some icebergs. (I guess they all took that week off!)
Tom wanted to get an extra bag to carry stuff — he was always thrifty. So naturally he took us to Salvation Army.
Tom entertained us by playing the spoons. He was pretty good at it.
We laughed and enjoyed our time together. Enjoying Tom’s antics and his puns every day.
    LOVE YOU BRO

We will always be here for your Sharon should she need anything at all.

  • Heather Stevenson -

We grieve the passing of our dear friend and brother-in-law Tom. A huge loss for the reasons already stated, his faith, wit, love of family and the gifts he so generously shared.

But we have a powerful promise, “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4

So we are a forever family and the reunion will be joyous.

Loving you so much Brother Tom..went out in my car today and still have my little duck that you gave me probably ten years ago! Yes it was a reflection on a duck story shared from my youth. Merlin’s duck was a false claim that I denied emphatically but it still , according to CNN, unfairly left the many doubting Thomas supporters! You were an amazing brother and I will miss you forever.

  • Johnna Jones -

Poppa Tom made everyone in his life feel seen, supported, and loved. His presence shaped our lives in more ways than he knows, and we’ll carry that with us forever. We will miss him dearly!
