Kathy Lea Dreilich

Kathy Lea Dreilich

Kathy Lea Dreilich, beloved wife, sister, stepmother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on December 26th, 2025, surrounded by her family, at the age of 65.

Born on June 22, 1960 in Summerland BC, to Pauline and Ken Marshall, Kathy spent her early years in the Okanagan Valley alongside her sister, Marilyn.  She was a bright and active child who loved the outdoors, dancing, and playing sports – especially soccer and field hockey.  Her childhood took her to various towns around BC, where she developed both her curiosity for learning and her appreciation for new adventures.

After finishing school, Kathy moved to Edmonton before returning to northern BC, eventually settling in Smithers.  It was there, while working in clerical services of the RCMP, that she met the love of her life, Murray Dreilich.  They later married, and Kathy became a devoted stepmom to Sherri and Bryan.

Kathy and Murray’s shared journey took them next to Penticton, and then to Cranbrook where they built a home surrounded by the quiet beauty of the countryside.  During this time Kathy poured her heart into volunteer work with the SPCA, reflecting her life long compassion for animals.

Upon retirement, Kathy and Murray relocated to Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island, where Kathy continued part time work with the RCMP while devoting more time to her creative side.  An avid paper crafter, she delighted in making beautiful handmade pieces and dedicated herself to caring for feral cats in her community.  A few years later, they moved to Sidney, where Kathy found joy in her seaside walks and the friendly rhythm of small-town life.

Kathy will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, gentle humor, and deep love for her family and animals.  She is survived by her husband, Murray; her sister, Marilyn; her stepchildren, Sherri and Bryan; her niece and nephews, four grandchildren and lots of extended family.

At this time, no service is planned.  Those wishing to honour her memory may consider making a donation at a local animal shelter, a cause that held a special place in her heart.
