Obituary Added: May 2, 2025

November 23, 1938 – April 19, 2025
Michael passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Sunderland, England, he immigrated to Canada in 1958. An accomplished Landscape Designer, his legacy lives on in the Japanese Garden in the Esquimalt Gorge Park which he and son Sean lovingly restored, the Japanese Garden at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific as well as many private gardens. A kind and principled man, Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife Janice Martinez, son Sean Greenfield, sister Judy Zembrodt and many dear friends.
Special thanks for the excellent care Michael received at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
Donations in Michael’s name can be made to the Junior Sailing Fund at the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club (snsyc.ca) where a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Respectful, caring, and accommodating

I met Leslie the day after my sweet Dad passed away. She was sensitive, respectful, caring, and accommodating.

The service she gave us from start to finish has been above and beyond, with her personally delivering a second urn to us one year later that should have been picked up by another family member.

I have come away from the whole experience with one final thought, I wish my Dad could have met her when he was alive, he would have enjoyed her too!
