Barbara Helen Judson

Barbara Helen Judson

Barbara Helen Judson (nee Sallis, and fondly known as Button) 89, of Sidney, British Columbia passed away on March 6, 2026. Barb will be deeply missed by her children Glenn (Gaie), Barbara, Brad (Carol) and Sandy. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her older sister Vicky in New Zealand. Barb was predeceased by her husband Vern, siblings Lily, Gwen, Fred, Vi, Edie, Margie, Ron, Norm and Grace, and son-in-law John.

Barbara was born in Vancouver, British Columbia to Alice and Charles Sallis. She was the youngest of 11 children. She grew up in Kitsilano, and recalled happy summers in Boundary Bay and helping her dad in his workshop. She married the love of her life, Vernon Judson, a navy Petty Officer, in 1954. They started their family right away and her life was full raising four children. In early years she baked bread and pies and took care of the household. Once her children were in Secondary and High School, Barb took on a job at Camosun College and became the Coordinator of Business Office Training and introduced a continuous intake for students. She had a travel bug. Once Vern retired from the navy the family moved to New Zealand for two years, then returned to Victoria. Later, Barb and Vern were off to Ottawa, and then back to Victoria. They travelled to Kauai and Europe, and later years on cruises in the Caribbean and many trips to Alaska. As a frequent traveller, she was thrilled to reach the Zenith tier of Celebrity Cruises Captain’s Club. She was skilled in sewing and knitting, and in retirement was known as “Grandma Barb” at Christmas craft fairs in Sidney, selling embroidered aprons and kitchen towels. After Vern’s passing in 2013 she continued cruising with her daughter Sandy to the Baltic, Hawaii, Caribbean and Alaska.

A special thank you goes out to the very dedicated and caring medical care team at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, and to her friends working at Amica Beechwood Village. At Barb’s request, a memorial service will not be held.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass … it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
