Barbara Giese

Barbara Giese
Barbara Jean Giese, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Sidney, British Columbia, at Sidney Care Home, where she had resided for the past year. She was born on September 12, 1940, in Vancouver, BC.

Barbara was the devoted wife of Dieter, her partner in life and in adventure. Together, they built a life full of love, curiosity, and unforgettable experiences. They embraced retirement early, allowing them to pursue a shared love of adventure. They travelled extensively, took cruises, sailed their boat—including trips as far as Haida Gwaii and Mexico—and spent many winters as snowbirds in warmer places such as Mexico and Arizona. Whether on land or sea, they were always chasing sunshine and new experiences.

She is also survived by her children, Scott (Holly) and Karen; her stepchildren, John (Cat) and Pam (Gary); and her bonus daughter, Cathy (Robin). She was grandmother to Silas, Trey, Victoria, William, Sarah, Caitlyn, and Jack.

Barbara’s career was as a lab technologist. She went back to school to earn her degree when she had two small children. This was a clear sign of her dedication to herself and her children. Before that, as a young woman, she skated professionally with the Ice Capades—an experience that reflected both her athletic ability and discipline. Figure skating remained an enduring interest throughout her life, and she continued to follow and appreciate the sport long after her skating years.

Barbara will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her enjoyment of travel, and the distinctive experiences that shaped her life.

She will be dearly missed and forever loved and remembered.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sidney Care Home for their care and support over the past year.
