 Allen, Judy

March 3, 1948 – May 16, 2025

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Judy Allen on May 16, 2025 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. She was 77 years old.

She is predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Joyce, and her brother, Craig. Judy is survived and held in hearts by her daughter, Jen, son-in-law, Matt and granddaughter, Petra, as well as sister-in-law, Meryliss; niece, Jessica, her husband, Alex, and their daughter, Quinn; nephew, Ryan, his wife, Caroline; niece Lauren, her partner, Henry, and their daughter, Mackenzie; and cousins, Sally & Stuart, their children, Wendy and Ian, and his son, Max.

Born in Toronto in 1948, Judy grew up in what was then the small community of Thornhill, Ontario, playing on the streets with the neighbourhood kids and spending summers at the family cottage. As a young athlete, she developed a life-long passion for sports, both as a participant and spectator, especially basketball, baseball and skiing. Seeking adventure, she drove her tiny MG convertible on a road trip to the West Coast, and eventually followed her parents on the Western migration, spending years around the Greater Vancouver area.

Judy became Mom when she welcomed her daughter, Jen, in 1983 and in 1986 they moved to Port Alberni where they enjoyed small town life and adventures in the rugged forest, rivers and lakes of the Alberni Valley. In 1998, they moved to the big city of Victoria, and later as Jen sought independent adventures as a young woman, Judy moved to Parksville in 2003 living with and caring for her mother, Joyce, until her death in 2007. Parksville was her home for 22 years and she cherished her friendships and connections in this beautiful community. Judy became Nana when we welcomed her granddaughter, Petra, in 2020 amidst the pandemic. The yearning to be closer to family in Victoria started growing stronger and in September 2024, Nana moved again to Victoria. She enjoyed family dinners and occasions with Jen, Matt, Petra and their extended family. We are grateful to have had these last months with her close by, though wished for many more.

Judy was an entrepreneur at heart and had an eagle eye for numbers. She spent her early career as a teacher and many years working in banks, managing bank branches and assisting the banks to adapt to computer-based systems. She used her financial acumen to volunteer as Treasurer for causes close to her heart, such as the Canadian Mental Health Association. She was most content when she was in charge of her own destiny and ran two successful accounting businesses at different times in her life, first AV Moneymatters in Port Alberni, and later Eagle Eye Accounting in Parksville, a business she maintained up until her last days.

Judy was an avid sports fan and an unwavering supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays, an homage to her Ontario childhood. But she also cheered for the Vancouver Canucks, any sporting event with a Team Canada and she could even sit and watch televised curling. We will always think of her when we cheer for the Blue Jays and Team Canada. She was very proud to be a Canadian.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bayside Resort in Parksville on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 12:00pm. All who cared for Judy are welcome.

If you would like to honour her life and passing, please consider making a donation to the SPCA in her name. She was a lifelong animal lover and heartfelt supporter of this cause.

She will be missed greatly for her cheerful silliness, and her big, open heart.
