William Geoffrey “Geoff” Barber
December 1, 1952 – July 30, 2026
Geoff Barber, 73, of Brentwood Bay, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Geoff grew up between Bamfield and Victoria, forging a lifelong bond with the sea. For decades, he worked the demanding Pacific waters as a commercial fisherman—navigating early mornings and stormy swells with grit and a deep respect for the ocean. In retirement, he happily spent his days sports fishing with his brothers aboard their boat, the JO FOGO.
A resident of Brentwood Bay for over 40 years, Geoff was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. Always quick with a warm smile and a friendly wave, he had a special gift for making everyone feel seen and valued. At the heart of his life was his large, close-knit extended family, who treasured his boundless warmth and laughter.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ada, and siblings Fred and Margaret.
Geoff is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Karen; daughter Nikki (Aaron); siblings Alex(Sylvia), Pat, Penny, and Ray(Tami); and many cherished extended family members and friends.
“Here’s looking up your old postal code” — Geoff’s favourite toast raised before sitting down to dinner, and a gentle reminder to never forget where you came from.
Per Geoff’s request, no formal service will be held.
The family is deeply grateful to BC Cancer, the nursing staff of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit, and Drs. Sienna Bourdon, Andrea Lewis, and Ian MacKenzie for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geoff’s memory to BC Cancer, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital – Palliative Care Unit, or the Shoreline Medical Society.
